First released in January 2008, the Samsung ML-2850/2851ND
printers are based on one of Samsung’s newest engines. The ML-2851
series runs at 30 ppm with a maximum resolution of 1,200 dpi. The first
page out is stated to be under 8.5 seconds, and the printer comes
standard with 32MB of memory (expandable to 160MB). As the model number
implies, duplexing and a network card are built in.
First released in April 2008, the CP1215 series of color
laser printers is based on a 12-ppm (black), 8-ppm (color), 600-dpi
engine. (2,400 dpi with RET in the CP1215 and up to 3,600 dpi with RET
in the CP 1518ni/CM 1312nfi MFP.) The 1215 cartridges are an
all-in-one-type cartridge that consists of the toner supply, drum and
waste chamber. Like the CLJ-2600 these machines use an in-line, or
single-pass system. The difference here is that all four cartridges are
stacked in line, front to back, instead of on top of each other as in
the 2600. See Figures A and B.
First introduced in April 2008,
the HP LaserJet P4014 engine is a 45-62 ppm (depending on the model),
1200 dpi engine. These printers will most likely replace the 4200/4300
series.
All of the machines in all three series have a first page
out in less than 8.5 seconds, come with 128Mb of ram (Expandable to
640Mb),and have a 400MHz processor. All also come standard with a 10,000
page low yield cartridge. The new CC364A and CC364X cartridges are
rated for 10,000 and 24,000 pages respectively. The HY cartridges will
not physically fit into the P4014 machines, only in the P4015 and P4515
series.
First introduced in June 2008, the Laser Class 810 and 830i
machines are based on a 23-ppm, 1,200-dpi Canon engine. The cartridge
for these machines is the FX11 (1153B001AA) cartridge. The cartridge is
rated for 4,500 pages at 5 percent coverage.

These machines are multifunction in that they print,
fax, copy and scan.
he Samsung SCX-4200 engine is a 600-dpi, 18-ppm laser engine
that prints copies and scans. No fax options are available for these
machines. They are a light-use machine with the duty cycle rated for 800
copies/month. One interesting thing to note is that the service manual
lists the machine life as five years or 50,000 pages, whichever comes
first. The fuser, paper pickup rollers, transfer roller and separation
pad are all rated for 50,000 pages. So basically when they wear out,
according to Samsung, it's time for a new machine!
First released in August 2008, the
Xerox Phaser 3635MFP printers are based on a 35ppm, 1200dpi engine. The
first page out is rated at under nine seconds, and the monthly duty
cycle is up to 75,000 pages. Both model printers are print, copy, scan,
fax, and e-mail capable.
These cartridges do not have a drum
cover, and come new with a piece of heavy paper with foam glued to it
taped around the cartridge.
First released in January 2008, the Samsung SCX-4725
multifunction printers are based on a 24ppm, 1200 by 1200 dpi engine.
The cartridge is an all in one type that has a chip that must be
replaced each cycle. Depending on the model, the machines are an MFP
that can print, copy, scan (color) and fax (SCX-4725FN only).
These
cartridges do not have a built-in drum cover, but do come new with a
plastic form fitting drum cover. For these cartridges Samsung has
stopped using the heavy paper wrap.
The Brother HL-4040 printer engine is based on a new 21-ppm
black and color, 2,400-by-600 dpi color laser engine. The machines come
standard with 64 MB expandable to 576 MB of memory, and all run off a
300 MHz-processor. With print speeds of 21 ppm and a list price starting
at $299, these machines are becoming very popular.
The toner
cartridges do not have a reset chip on them, but do have a reset gear
that must be positioned properly for the machine to accept it as a new
cartridge. From my research, the starter cartridges that initially came
with new printers (TN-110) did not come with rest gears, but all the new
starters I have seen now do. The proper reset positions of the gears
will be covered later in this instruction.

with RET). The 2025 cartridges are an all in one type cartridge that
consists of the toner supply, drum, and waste chamber. Like the CP-1215

CP-1215 all four cartridges are stacked in line front to back instead of
on top of each other as in older Hp single pass machines. See
Figures A and B. Because of this new machine layout, we will take a
moment and run through the printer theory before we get started.
First introduced in November 2008,
the HP-P2035/2055 series of laser printers is based on a 30-35 ppm,
1,200 dpi Canon engine that comes standard with 16 MB memory in the 2030
and 64 MB in the 2050 series.
Two different cartridges are
available for this series: the CE505A (rated at 2,300 pages) and the
CE505X (rated for 6,500 pages).
The Brother HL-2700CN printers are based on a 31-ppm black,
8-ppm color 600-dpi engine. The toner cartridges are simple to do, and
quite profitable. These machines were designed as workgroup printers,
and continued to be very popular.
One nice item to note on these
cartridges is that they do not use a chip. There is also nothing to
reset when installing them.
